FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DON'T KNOW MY FRIEND JOEY

This is my friend Joey.

Joey and I are crazy fuckers. We went on a month long trip where we ingested copious amounts of drugs and alcohol, and managed to move ourselves about 17,000 kilometers in the process. That's half way around the world. Our new crazy plan is to become publishing moguls. Joey wrote a book, called Lockpick Pornography, which is about queer terrorism, from what I can tell. There are crazy beatings, crazy sex scenes, all sorts of stuff. It's pretty good. But you can read most of it here and make your own decisions.

So yeah, this crazy fucker and I, we're going to publish his book, full colour covers, professionally printed and bound, a real friggin' book. It will be a couple chapters longer than the website version, it might even be illustrated, if we can get a certain amazing illustrator to unbusy himself for us. It's going to be finished and mailed out in the middle of August, if nothing goes wrong. The book is $10 CAN for Canadians and $10 US for Americans, plus $3 shipping. If you order one now while we're pre-selling, as a thank you it'll be signed and numbered out of 200, and come with a special illustrated zine, too.

Alright, that's the pitch. Here's the website: http://www.lockpickbook.net.

xo.

Our rough itinerary is as follows, though we can't make every stop, we're going to try and determine which stops will be the most fun! Send us an email, or post letting us know of any options along here we missed. We Amtrak isn't a very efficient system, with trains running every three days some places. I'll be gone til the 27th, just in time to come home and move from this apartment to one a block and a half down the street. Since my #1 camera is definately out of commision I'll be taking a suitcase full of substitutes; polaroid one step, holga, an old kodak brownie, and a canon ae-1 which is the same model as my first camera ever. Oh, and two 110 cameras, a tiny one for stealth shots and carrying around in sketchico and a big yellow underwater one.

Anyway, until I get back, here's this: a triple exposed print of Tanis from Valentine's Day. It's fucked because the paper I used to cover up the 2/3rds of the sheet that weren't supposed to be getting exposed was too thin, so that explains the dark spots all over the place. The prints are wonky shapes because I cut the three rectangles out of a piece of cardboard in the darkroom with only the safelights on.

+ So my favorite camera is definately broken, and I don't have any money to get a new one right now. I think i'm going to spraypaint it pink and mount it on the wall. In the fall I'll probably replace it, but until then it's down to the dollar store variety for me

+ My magazine has a new website -- http://www.pinemagazine.ca -- and a new store -- http://www.pinemagazine.ca/store.

+ In the store you can order the magazine and there's also a pre-order button for a chapbook of photos I have coming out in a few months.
Yesterday I almost died.

I was climbing around on a little cliff face, my three friends and I were trying to "borrow" a rowboat for a little trip, and getting to the boat was kind of a sketchy process. I was walking along this rather steep part holding onto a big vine or something and it snapped. I fell 8 feet down, backward, down the cliff and landed on my neck in about 3.5 feet of water. 6 inches to the right the water was only about half a foot deep and 6 inches to the left there were huge rocks.

I don't know why I'm still alive, I'm trying to figure out what I'm supposed to do with myself. Something needs to change.

My head and legs are bruised, my hands and shins are cut to shit. I was wearing my favourite, most expensive camera at the time and I'm pretty sure it's fucked.

Holy crap. Holy crap.

I flew from the Pacific Ocean, where I live, to the Atlantic ocean, where I grew up, to spend a few weeks with old friends and with family. The trip back to the Pacific involved a car ride with my father and nephew to Montreal, where I stayed in a hotel above the Jazz Festival for a few days, sweating and eating 99 cent pizza. I met up with my friend Sarah Michelle who decided to go west with me, so we made a sign that said JUST MARRIED and had a friend of hers drive us 20 minutes out of town to where the highway starts.

Apart from a day of solid rain in Western Ontario where we slept in a car in a junkyard, the whole trip went amazing and we got to Sarah's mom's house in High Level, Alberta in 4 days(!!). In High Level I planned to keep going north to Yellowknife to visit my friend Darren who works for CBC radio up there, but Sarah's mom insisted on buying the two of us Greyhound tickets to Vancouver, and who am I to refuse a free ride. That's all I'd been doing all week.

5000 miles in about a week and a half, and the whole thing cost $20 dollars, not counting the money I spent on beer in Montreal and whiskey on the road.

Tanis with a 40's wig on and her brains blown out. We rented the sketchiest hotel room we could find to take these pictures. The people who rented it to us thought we were making a porno because of all the cameras and lights we brought in + we said we only needed the room for a few hours. They told us to "make sure we balled up the blankets and put them in the corner when we were done."

This is Taylor at the same shoot. He was doing most of the photos and I was doing lights and makeup. But of course I couldnt help but snap a few myself.

I like this picture because most of Taylor is in focus, but from his elbow to the far left of the photo is all blurry. I have no idea why. Probably I was drunk.
